On April 17th, 1998, 48
skydivers arrived from all around the country with two goals in mind:
- to build a 6 pointed star (Mogen David) 6000 feet above the earth
and
- to raise money to support the Family Violence Project, a non-profit
group of Battered Women's Shelters.
They accomplished both- in spades! The jumpers successfully completed 4
Star of David formations and raised almost $20,000 dollars in donations. This was the
second year that the event was held. Year one, in 1997, netted $11,612 for the
charity.
The event was both a memorial for skydiver Kelly Moorland, who was
killed by her abusive husband in 1997, as well as a celebration of
Passover and the 50th anniversary of Israel.
Aerial footage, ground footage, and stills photographs are available.
