Renowned artist Farooq Qaiser, who became famous for his character “Uncle Sargam”, has died in Islamabad from a heart attack. He was 75 years old.
The news was confirmed at Express news by his grandson on Friday night. He was known as “Uncle Sargam” on the popular PTV show. Kaliyan.
Uncle Sargam was a household name for Pakistani children of the 80s and 90s with his prominent puppet show Kaliyan at this moment.
Condolences are pouring in
Prime Minister Imran Khan offered his condolences on the disappearance of a renowned artist and puppeteer. “He was not only an artist, but he was constantly raising awareness of injustices and social issues,” the prime minister said on Twitter in his condolence message.
Expressing his sadness at the death of Qaiser, the Prime Minister also conveyed his condolences and prayers to the bereaved family.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid also expressed sorrow over Qaisar’s disappearance. In his condolence message, he prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the soul of the deceased in eternal peace and to grant courage to the bereaved family members to endure this irreparable loss with strength and serenity.
The minister said Qaisar is a great writer, artist and designer.
“He was the king of social satire, comedy, puppetry and communication and his services would be remembered in journalism and media,” he added.
