REED CITY – Saturdays at the Depot will feature a new guest, or two if you count the model.

A ventriloquist, Richard Paul, will perform a free show at the depot at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 27.

The show is funded by the Osceola County Community Foundation, which means the 45-minute to one-hour show will be free for everyone.

City manager Rich Saladin has high hopes for the show.

“I’ve read the reviews. Hopefully we’ll bring people out and make them laugh and have a good time,” he said.

Saladin said “it’s not something you see every day”.

“Everything is free, there will be concessions, like popcorn and drinks, and it looks like the weather is going to be nice for us, hopefully we’ll have people downtown and enjoy it.”

A chainsaw carver event that was previously rainy has been rescheduled for September 3.

The sculptor is Steve Hanes of the Luther area, and he will carve a rough wooden pole into a bear, which will be auctioned off, with all proceeds raised to support the Reed City wading pool project.

“It’s for a good cause and it’s fun to watch this take shape in front of everyone’s eyes,” Saladin said.

There will also be two movies playing at the depot, “Shrek” and “Shrek 2,” presented by Crossroads Leisure Group for Labor Day weekend.
