TV producer who worked on The Jeremy Kyle Show hanged herself after struggling to find work

A television producer on ITV’s The Jeremy Kyle Show hanged herself after struggling to find work when the show was cut, an investigation has found.

Natasha Reddican, 31, a six-year producer of the show, drank a “significant” amount of alcohol after a scheduled online job interview did not take place and then committed suicide.

She was found by her boyfriend upon returning from work at their home in Salford, Greater Manchester on February 27 and was later pronounced dead by paramedics.

Ms Reddican lost her job with others on the show following the alleged suicide of guest Steve Dymond, who died of a drug overdose after appearing on the show in May 2019.

Her mother, Laraine Law, said during an inquest in Bolton that her daughter’s job was “everything for her”.

She said: “To have it taken away from her in such a sudden and unexpected way, she became depressed and depressed. I think it really hit her.

She said that Ms Reddican, known to her family and friends as Tash, had an “amazing and bubbly personality,” but added: “Sometimes when she was a little low or a little low she was drinking… and then you see that vulnerable side. ‘

Her boyfriend Mackenzie Hanafan, who worked with her on the daytime show, said, “Tash worked so hard to get the job and did it really well and had the respect of all of his colleagues.”

He said the circumstances in which the show was cut were “something that weighed heavily on him.”

He said: “The way it all unfolded, it wasn’t a short period, it spanned the year. It took a heavy toll on him.

Annaliese Edwards, a colleague of Mr Hanafan at the time of Ms Reddican’s death, said her ex-husband had also worked on The Jeremy Kyle Show and said although support was offered by ITV in the dismissal process he was ‘not enough for some people’ and said: ‘I think some people struggled with the shame of what happened.’

Concluding that Ms Reddican’s death was a suicide, Manchester West Senior Coroner Timothy Brennand said it was a “tragic and heartbreaking case” involving a young woman with “such impressive potential”.

He said: “She was a local girl with a high work ethic who rose through the ranks from a modest position to become a producer of a well-known television production.”

He said it was unclear why the interview did not go as planned, but it was not Ms Reddican’s fault.

Concluding that Ms Reddican’s death was suicide, Manchester West Senior Coroner Timothy Brennand said it was a “tragic and heartbreaking case” involving a young woman with “such impressive potential”

Mr Brennand said the motivations for his actions seemed “multidimensional”, but noted that he had been described as having his work on The Jeremy Kyle Show seen as “being a family at work such was the tight-knit community. of those people involved ”and after losing her job, she“ seems to have been seen as a sort of outcast in the industry ”.

Given the degree of care and thoughtfulness involved in her death, he said he was fully convinced that her actions were deliberate and intentional despite the fact that she drank a quarter of a bottle of whiskey and maybe a half. -bottle of wine.
